School closure update: Late last night, the Oregon Department of Education sent out a 27-page guidance document regarding the school closure. In the document, we were told that "there is a strong possibility that our students may not come back through our school house doors this academic year."
This is not very surprising given the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but it was surprising to learn that ODE has changed its requirements for student learning for the remainder of the year. Schools will still be furnishing school lunches to students, but there will be some changes as to how schools will be delivering learning opportunities to students. ODE has given districts until April 13 to meet their new guidelines.
There are many questions that are as of now unanswered from ODE, but we anticipate hearing from them in the coming days as we prepare for the remainder of the year. We will keep you informed as the new education plans take shape over the next two weeks.
We also have no information at this time from ODE about our seniors and how they will earn the credits they need for graduation. They have been working on a plan for a couple of week, but haven't given us any official information yet. We will also keep you informed when we get that information from them.
Thank you for your patience during these difficult times as we navigate ODE's changing guidelines.
