The Three Circle Model

Hello! 😃

In the agriculture courses offered at Pilot Rock JR. SR. High School, there is a unique dynamic that the teachers value and attribute to the success of all students in our classes! Based on the ideas of three elements, the model exhibits student growth through multiple platforms to ensure success and learning. The model ebbs and flows in circle sizes dependent on student, community, and industry needs. It consists of three circles encompassing slightly different but overlapping ideas as exhibited below.

 3 Circle Model :

Supervise Agricultural Experience (SAE)- Learn by doing. Students develop an interest based project with their teacher with the intent of applying classroom instruction to real world applications. Students learn soft skills such as record keeping, financing, goal setting, and more based on their own interests.

FFA-FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success. This is a student run organization where students plan, approve, organize and complete various events including: community service, fundraising, team bonding activities, field trips, competitions, and more.

Classroom -There are many courses offered in agriculture education at PR. These include Metals, Small engines, FFA Leadership, Animal Science, Introduction to Agriculture, Jr. Hi Wood Shop, & Greenhouse.

Agricultural education is a systematic program of instruction available to students desiring to learn about the science, business, and technology of plant and animal production, industry mechanics, and/or about the environmental and natural resources systems.  Agricultural education first became a part of the public education system in 1917 when the U.S. Congress passed the Smith-Hughes Act.  Today, over 800,000 students participate in formal agricultural education instructional programs offered in grades seven-adult throughout the 50 states and three U.S. territories.
